Writing T3 wk 5

For writing this week we were writing a persuasive argument about how schools should ban junk food. I am against this. Below is my persuasive piece of writing.

Should Schools Ban Junk Food?

Would you want your kids to be unhappy? I didn’t think so, which is why I am against schools banning junk food. Kids like junk food because it so sweet and tasty. It could be a treat if a child does something good.

Some people are probably saying “but it’s got lots of sugar why would you let children have junk food?” Well I will tell you that it may have a lot of sugar, but it is okay to have some junk food sometimes.

People could be asking now “how can I control how much sugar my child is eating?” Well you could get your child to choose one type of junk food every now and again then they will be happy.

So we have talked about why Junk food could be seen as bad but there are ways to solve this problem. If you can manage how much junk food your child is eating and it being a treat now and again then there no reason to ban junk food!

Question: Are you for or against this?

Maths T3 wk 3

For maths this week we had to choose one strategy and record it with 2 questions of the same strategy I did tidy numbers. Our goal is to solve 2 & 3 digit problems by Tidy Numbers: 29 + 18 as 30 + 17. Solve 2 & 3 digit problems by Place Value: 33 + 16 as 30 + 10 + 3 + 6. Use a broad range of mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Below is my video of the tidy number strategy.

Question: do you know this strategy?

House of Bricks Reflection

Last week on Friday the House of Bricks came to our school and we did a bunch of very cool Lego activity's. The reason we did this is because we need to work on our character and collaboration. A few days after that we made a reflection on it. There were 3 rotations that we had to do. Below is the reflection that I made.

Question: Have you heard of the House of Bricks before?

Writing T3 wk 2

This week we watched an award winning short film called umbrella. After we watched it, we put it on a Google doc and below is what we writ for it (Not the whole story)

Umbrella

Early one stormy evening, the door to Miss Elem’s Home For Children swung open. The girl with the lemon yellow umbrella, reluctantly stumbled into the orphanage before finding a home for her umbrella. Not wanting to be spotted, Boris quickly ducked his head behind the door frame so that he was hidden away from prying eyes. Standing off from the side the girl examined and saw the tremendous scene while the children dug through the ginormous box for hidden goodies. The girl grinned as she observed the young boy speeding across the room like a roaring Ferrari. Her smile quickly vanished off her face as she looked back at the umbrella stand and all she saw were puddles forming a track all the way up the stairs. Her sunshine bright yellow precious umbrella had been stolen.

Question: have you watched this short film before?

My Town Trip Recount

On the 20th of May we went to town and the Margaret Mahy park. The reason is because we need learn about the story of Christchurch. We went on a Waka, talked about the  Margaret Mahy park, we went to Victoria Square, we fed the Tuna and we looked around Margaret Mahy and found 3 out of 13 maori mats.

My favourite part of the trip was when we went on the waka because we were saying HI! HA! And kept on repeating. We were also singing E minaka ana on the way there too. After the waka ride my arms were really tired.

Something I learnt was when Victoria square was called market square they used wakas to transport to market square. On the way they would get eels and trade them at the market. Another thing I learnt was that the tiles on the ground at the playground created a song. I also found out that you had to shout out hi and ha really loud so everyone can hear and know what to do.

The thing I found the most interesting was that eels favourite food is Cat food that was very surprising when I heard that eels eat cat food. I knew that eels eat cat food when the teacher pulled out cat food from her bag.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because now that I have learnt tons of things about Christchurch and Margaret Mahy. It will help me to write a lot more facts and information. Now that I lots more Information to write and create a lot more work and finish it faster so we can do the funner stuff.
